Barcode Scanner Tips and Tricks

Here are some guidelines on setting up and using our recommended barcode scanners with Meevo.

Compatibility

  1. If you are using an Apple/Mac computer, review the scanners' manufacturer’s notes to make sure the scanner is compatible with your device.
  2. 2D imagers are not necessary; however, devices that can be upgraded to 2D function at a later time are a "nice to have" for upgrades down the line.

Pairing

  1. Wired connections rarely fail and are better for high-volume transaction areas, like the front desk. A Bluetooth pairing issue can slow down productivity tremendously.
  2. When pairing Bluetooth scanners with iPhones and tablets, you may need to enable the phone’s and tablet’s native keyboard.
  • Some brands have a native feature built-in, like Socket-brand scanners, where you press the scanner’s power button twice to toggle the keyboard on/off.
  • Other brands have a button that can be programmed for an alternative feature, like the Honeywell Voyager 1602g, where the auxiliary button can be programmed to "Enable Virtual Keyboard."

Programming

  1. Be mindful of inter-character delay programming (slowing the reader down when scanning into a web page like Meevo), as well as prefix and suffix character programming. All of these can negatively impact the barcode scanner's performance with Meevo.
  2. We do not recommend programming the scanner with a TAB character suffix, as this can cause issues in Meevo.
  3. If you want your scanner to include a carriage return after scanning a barcode, most scanners require you to program this behavior. Refer to your device documentation for details on programming the scanner to add a carriage return.
