Barcode Scanner Tips and Tricks
Here are some guidelines on setting up and using our recommended barcode scanners with Meevo.
Compatibility
- If you are using an Apple/Mac computer, review the scanners' manufacturer’s notes to make sure the scanner is compatible with your device.
- 2D imagers are not necessary; however, devices that can be upgraded to 2D function at a later time are a "nice to have" for upgrades down the line.
Pairing
- Wired connections rarely fail and are better for high-volume transaction areas, like the front desk. A Bluetooth pairing issue can slow down productivity tremendously.
- When pairing Bluetooth scanners with iPhones and tablets, you may need to enable the phone’s and tablet’s native keyboard.
- Some brands have a native feature built-in, like Socket-brand scanners, where you press the scanner’s power button twice to toggle the keyboard on/off.
- Other brands have a button that can be programmed for an alternative feature, like the Honeywell Voyager 1602g, where the auxiliary button can be programmed to "Enable Virtual Keyboard."
Programming
- Be mindful of inter-character delay programming (slowing the reader down when scanning into a web page like Meevo), as well as prefix and suffix character programming. All of these can negatively impact the barcode scanner's performance with Meevo.
- We do not recommend programming the scanner with a TAB character suffix, as this can cause issues in Meevo.
- If you want your scanner to include a carriage return after scanning a barcode, most scanners require you to program this behavior. Refer to your device documentation for details on programming the scanner to add a carriage return.
