Service Categories

To get to Service Categories, type servicecat into the Convobar, or go to Meevo > Data > Service Categories.

Service Categories group similar services together into sub-categories. This category / sub-category relationship results in easy booking and filtering in Appointment Book and more accurate reporting. Each service is required to have at least one Service Category and one service sub-category. Service sub-categories are more precise classifications of the service.

By default, Service Categories control the color of the bar along the left side of appointments in the Appointment Book, helping you to quickly identify the types of services that are booked.

Note: The Primary Appointment Style Business Preferences setting allows you to change this so that Service Categories control the appointment's background color and Appointment Categories control the color of the side bar.

Best practices for Service Category/sub-category relationships

Sub-categories are not the services offered by your business; the actual services are defined in the service definition. For example, a Chemical Service Category may have sub-categories of Color, Relaxer, Highlights, and Perms.

The main advantage to these sub-categories is the ability to compare, through reporting, sub-category against sub-category. For example, you can run a report to see how Color service revenue compares to Highlight service revenue.

Adding a Service Category

Tip: If creating several records that have similar details, select Copy to create a new record with fields identical to the one you just copied. This can save you a lot of time when creating data in Meevo.

  1. From the Service Category search form, select Add New.
  2. Enter a Display Name and Description.
  3. Background: Select a color for the Service Category. Service Categories control the color of the bar along the left side of  the appointment. In the example below, the vertical blue bar in this appointment reflects the Service Category.

  1. Service Sub-Categories: Enter a Display Name and configure a Background color for this sub-category.  You must add at least one sub-category.
  2. To add another category, select Add New (shown below).
  3. When finished, select Save.

Inactivating or reactivating a Service Category

Mark an item "inactive" if you are setting up data and want to restrict its use until the item is completely set up or ready, or if you no longer require the item in any capacity but may want to reactivate it in the future.

When you inactivate a Service Category:

  • It is no longer selectable from any forms or menus in Meevo.
  • It can still appear in Meevo reports.
  • It does not appear in Meevo search results unless Inactive is selected from the Advanced menu.

To inactivate or reactivate a Service Category:

Note: A Service Category cannot be inactivated if it is associated with an active service.

  1. Locate the Service Category and select it.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Select the switch to toggle it to Active or Inactive.

  4. Select Save.

Deleting or undeleting a Service Category

Delete an item if it is no longer needed in any capacity, and you don't anticipate needing it in the future. Most deleted items can be undeleted, and the ones that can't display a warning before Meevo lets you fully delete.

When you delete a Service Category:

  • It is no longer selectable from any Meevo forms or menus.
  • It does not appear in Meevo search results unless Deleted is selected from the Advanced menu.
  • It may still appear in Meevo reports depending on the report setup criteria.

To delete or undelete a Service Category:

Note: A Service Category cannot be deleted if it is associated with an active service.

  1. Locate the Service Category and select it.
  2. Select Delete or Undelete.
    1. If deleting, a confirmation message appears. Select Yes to complete the deletion.
    2. If undeleting, the form becomes active after you select Undelete. Select Save to finish undeleting.
