Updating Listings in the Knowledge Graph

The Knowledge Graph is where you can view and update the information about your brand that the public sees — allowing you to manage all the facts about your business, from holiday hours and in-store promotions to parking entrances and professional credentials.

Most publishers with a Live status in Online Presence Management will automatically consume your Knowledge Graph updates immediately after you make any changes.

Note: In Central Office, you can select a location from the list to view and update that location's Knowledge Graph.

Important details regarding your business name, address, and phone number

If your business changes its name but all other information remains the same:

Once the new business name is synced over to the Knowledge Graph from Business Information, the majority of publishers are updated with this information. Please note that any major change to your business information (such as the business name) triggers the Google Business Profile listing to become unverified, so your business account owner will need to go through the verification process with Google. Once that is complete, you will then need to re-sync the listing with the verified Google Business Profile listing. Additionally, Facebook does not accept name changes from any third-party platform, so you will need to update the business name directly on Facebook. However, you will not need to manually re-sync the listing.

If your business changes 2 of the following details: name, address, or phone number:

Before you make these changes, we recommend you reach out to MSI Support for guidance. Here's why:

If you change at least 2 of those 3 details at the same time, your business will be considered a "new business." If your business is considered "new," this results in a new listing being created with the publishers, and you will also have to go through the verification process with Google for the new location's listing. Please note that reviews do not transfer in this case; however, since it's considered a new business, this is expected.

Since changing those details doesn't always mean that you are a new business under new ownership, there may be ways for you to make these updates without your business being considered "new." So, before you make these changes, reach out to MSI Support for guidance.

To update Business Information details

Reminder: This sync can only be performed by a location.

There are certain fields that should be updated through Meevo's Business Information and then synced back over to the Knowledge Graph.

As a best practice, the following fields should be updated first in Meevo Business Information and then re-synced:

  • All Address fields (including Country)
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Facebook URL
  • Instagram URL
  • Twitter URL
  • Business Hours

Knowledge Graph information that you should regularly update

To keep your listings relevant, fields such as Featured Message, Temporary Hours, Holiday Hours, and Photo Gallery should be updated regularly, about every month or so. Making sure that these fields are up-to-date lets search engines know that your business is actively updating information, which consequently will improve your rankings.

You can automate some of these tasks by scheduling certain updates, such as a Featured Message during a promotion.
