About Point-of-sale (POS) Hardware
How do I set up my devices?
See the topics under Setting Up POS Hardware for details on installing your point-of-sale hardware.
What is a POS Station and how does it work?
A POS Station is a workstation -- a desktop computer, mobile phone, or tablet -- where Meevo is being used. A POS Station can be assigned an encrypted credit card device and/or receipt printer, which become the default devices for the workstation.
There are two levels of POS Station associations:
- When creating a POS Station, you can select a Credit Card Terminal and a Receipt Printer. Upon activation of the POS Station, those devices become the defaults for that workstation. You have the flexibility to associate each workstation with its own devices, or multiple workstations with the same devices.
- You can also assign one or more POS Stations to a drawer. This allows multiple workstations to contribute to the same virtual drawer, but the workstations will use the devices (if any) defined in POS Stations. For more information on this association, see About Drawers.
How does Meevo determine which receipt printer I'm using?
A network receipt printer can be:
- Assigned to a POS Station. In this case, each time a user logs into that workstation, the POS Station's assigned receipt printer is the default printer.
- Assigned to a register drawer. During a login session, opening the register or changing a register drawer will make the drawer's assigned printer the default receipt printer. However, if the drawer was assigned a POS Station, then the drawer will use that POS Station's default devices.
- Selected manually from the username drop-down menu. The selection will remain the default printer unless one of the actions above is performed.
How do I set up my encrypted credit card device?
Credit card devices are set up and linked to Merchant Accounts. See About Merchant Accounts for more information.
