Updating Local SEO Profile Settings
Note: For specifics on changing your Business Categories, see Adding or Changing Business Categories.
How soon after I make a change in Local SEO Profile Settings will that information appear in publisher sites?
Your changes should appear on most sites right away! Most publishers with a Live status in Online Presence Management will automatically consume your Local SEO Profile Settings updates immediately after you make any changes.
Important details regarding your business name, address, and phone number
If a business changes their name but all other information remains the same:
Once the new business name is synced over to Local SEO Profile Settings from Business Information, we update the majority of publishers with this information. Please note that any major change to your business information (such as the business name) triggers the Google Business Profile listing to become unverified, so your business account owner will need to go through the verification process with Google. Once that is complete, you will then need to re-sync the listing with the verified Google Business Profile listing. Additionally, Facebook does not accept name changes from any third-party platform, so you will need to update the business name directly on Facebook. However, you will not need to manually re-sync the listing.
If a business changes 2 of the following 3 details: name, address, or phone number:
Before you make these changes, we recommend you reach out to MSI Support for guidance. Here's why:
If you change at least 2 of those 3 details at the same time, your business will be considered a "new business." If your business is considered "new," this results in a new listing being created with the publishers, and you will also have to go through the verification process with Google for the new location's listing. Please note that reviews do not transfer in this case; however, since it's considered a new business, this is expected.
Since changing those details doesn't always mean that you are a new business under new ownership, there may be ways for you to make these updates without your business being considered "new." So, before you make these changes, reach out to MSI Support for guidance.
To update Business Information details
- There are certain fields that should be updated through Meevo's Business Information and then synced back over to Local SEO Profile Settings. As a best practice, the following fields should be updated first in Meevo Business Information and then re-synced: all Address fields (including Country), Phone Number, Email Address, Facebook URL, Instagram URL, Twitter URL, and Business Hours. Updating those fields in Local SEO Profile Settings does not sync that updated information back to Meevo's Business Information.
- Fields that appear in gray, such as Name and Address, can only be changed by making updates in Business Information, and then re-syncing. These fields cannot be edited from within Local SEO Profile Settings.
Local SEO Profile Settings details that you should regularly update
Certain fields in Local SEO Profile Settings can be updated regularly ‒ every month or so ‒ to keep your listings relevant. Fields such as Featured Message, Temporary Hours, Holiday Hours, and Photo Gallery are good to keep up-to-date. Making sure that these fields are up-to-date lets search engines know that your business is actively updating information, which consequently will improve your rankings.
You can automate some of these tasks by scheduling certain updates, such as a Featured Message during a promotion.
